“We must accept responsibility for a problem before we can solve it. We cannot solve a problem by saying ‘It’s not my problem,’ and hoping that someone else will solve it for us. We can solve a problem only when we say ‘This is my problem and it’s up to me to solve it.’” ~ M. Scott Peck
The tagline for this blog is “Take Charge of Your Life,” and with good reason. If you sit around and expect other people to fix your life for you, you’re going to be in for a long wait. The concerns we have, the reasons we’re unhappy, are our responsibilty to change. While not all of them may have been our fault, we must still accept that it is our fault we’re still in this position. Until we take charge and take responsibility, nothing will change.
To do this, acknowledge what’s going on and how you got there. Acknowledge your role in it. Even if others played a part, passing blame doesn’t solve anything — it just makes you angry.
Next, acknowledge that it’s up to you to correct it. It’s your life. What do you want it to be like? What do you want to change? How can you change it?
Last but not least, take control of the “problem” and solve it! Change your life.
Once you’ve taken ownership of the problems and concerns, it’s well within your reach to change your situation. After all, if it’s your problem, then you must be capable of solving it. So prove it!
